How my actions grew a business I loved!

In 2016, I was not in the best of health physically and mentally and I struggled for months. I really started to dislike my work and getting up to go everyday was causing mental and physical pain.

I was crying every day and I was so miserable to myself and everyone around me. I was having panic attacks and I had to have an emergency surgery…it was not a happy time.

All this time I was building my business but I was doing the bare minimum because I had a 7 figure salary to lean on. When I was about to go back to work after surgery I had the worse panic attack I ever had and I knew I had to make a decision.

I called my boss and resigned over the phone at 9pm!! I was that desperate and then I sat and said…..Dans what’s next?

I had to get into ACTION because I still had bills to pay, I loved travelling, I had expensive taste….lol and I did not necessarily want to adjust my lifestyle. So I knew I had to get into real intentional action to make this happen.

I spent the next 3 days with my head down writing down everything, planning how to land at least 10 clients in the following week. Organising my money and recreating my budget with a financial goal in mind.

I started to do daily videos
Did a challenge
Sent out emails (You can join my email list here and learn 6 ways to grow your business organically)

Started a fb support group for entrepreneurs (Dynamic Business Strategist)
Reached out to my network
Planned an event

And my bills continue to be paid
I continue to travel
I continue to attract the best clients
I continue to grow and develop my business
I continue to study and learn

I went into specific intentional ACTION and I got exactly what I wanted and 3 years later I am still going strong….yes with some bumps and lessons along the way but ACTION is the only reason I have made it this far.

You too can get exactly what you want when you get into ACTION and commit to it!

It’s all about you and how dynamic you and your business will become. Because you know what you want and you know how big you want your business to grow, you are willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.

Stop with the Excuses!

Excuses excuses excuses!!

We all have them and we all use them. If I had a 25cent for every excuse I have heard for why your biz is not where it needs to be I swear I would be a trillionaire.

I am not knocking you because I know I have used them at one time and sometimes I still have to stop myself in my tracks when I realise I am making excuses for why I am NOT

Doing my mindset work
Automating my social media
Hiring or delegating
Investing in myself
Selling everyday
Selling multiple things
Following up
Answering the phone or that email
Taking a rest when I am tired
Asking for help
Implementing what I have learnt

I mean the excuses are just so lame that sometimes I am ashamed. Like—-

  1. I am tired….no I actually just want to lie down and binge watch Netflix
    Or
  2.  I do not know what to say in the email…no I am scared of getting a no
    Or
  3. This is not the right time to do a video…no I am scared that nobody turns up or worse yet nobody engages or buys
    Or
  4. I have no help to get all this done…no my to do list is crap and is just filled with a set of stuff that is not important plus I have not asked for help
    Or
  5. I just need to read some more and do some more free classes…no I am being lazy and am afraid to implement it and not get the results

Let’s just be honest with ourselves for a minute here and really stop with the excuses because they are lame; nobody wants to hear it and you are doing more harm to your business than good!

You see that pressure you keep putting on yourself….you need to stop it now

Stop frustrating yourself because you feel that everything needs to be done right now
Or you feel that everything needs to be perfect
Or you feel everyone is getting more done than you and making more money than

Don’t let posts from fb and ig make you feel stressed out because you never know if what people post is the truth
And stop comparing your chapter 1 to their chapter 20

****That pressure will paralyze you
****That pressure will make you move slower
****That pressure will make you miss opportunities in front of you
****That pressure will cause anxiety

And you do not need that pressure because you are already great and you already have all the tools to succeed and you are already a billionaire
And you attract the best clients and money flows to you freely and effortlessly every single day
And the Universe is hearing you and will deliver everything you have asked for and more

Believe it and trust it and accept it and then release that pressure that you have put on yourself. Just breathe and enjoy the journey because you deserve it!

6 key lessons I teach my clients

As a business coach and consultant, you can imagine that I am bombarded by emails, private messages and phone calls everyday asking about the ins and outs of business. And while no 2 businesses are alike or even have the same goals or strategies, there are a few keys discussions I have with every client that engages my services. Because it is important that they understand that with a fundamental understanding of these topics, they may very well struggle to attract clients and grow their business. Each one of the elements need to be taken into consideration to grow your business. So let me share with you what we usually discuss in our sessions:

  1. Mindset

If your mind is in a mess then you are not going to succeed. Have I made myself clear? I know this is hard for many people to grapple because they just want to jump into strategy and marketing and all the nice things to make money.

But if you want to make money you have to start fixing your mindset. What you think about yourself, your business and your environment. Not just being positive…even though that helps, but believing that you are a powerful force to be reckoned with and that nothing can stop you from achieving success in this life.

You have to believe it, say it, walk in it, sing it out loud, write it out, preach it, sit down in it, stand in it and make it your daily reality!

You cannot have a busted tyre when you are driving a Mercedez Benz. Nope! You have to make sure your tyres always have air and are road worthy. Make yourself success worthy every single day

2. Branding

How many times have you heard that your brand is YOU! And yes I hear all the complaints about not wanting to be the face and blah blah blah but whether you are the face of the brand or not your brand is a reflection of your personality.

Each brand has a unique personality which resonates with the audience they are trying to attract. Think about your own personality traits and see if they tie into your brand

  • Are you warm and soft
  • Are you louder and outspoken
  • Are your colourful or more subdued
  • Do you like adventure or like the indoors

3. Marketing

Marketing is a combination of activities that you do together in order to attract the clients that you want. It is not one task that is done in isolation but a combination which work together to get you the results that you want.

When somebody says they struggle with marketing more than likely they are posting on 2 social media platforms and that is all. That is a big no no. Think about all the marketing tools available at your disposal like

  1. Video
  2. Email
  3. Blogging/articles
  4. Posters/Fliers
  5. Interviews
  6. Networking events

Combining a few of these things together will ensure that you build know-like and trust and you are seen and heard by your audience and so close the sale!

4. Sales Strategies

Selling is simply having a conversation with your clients about their challenge and how you can solve their challenge. But there may be a few reasons that you are not selling enough or even at all….

  1. If you do not love what you are selling. And I mean if you are not obsessed and totally feel aligned to it then it shows in your sales process
  2. If you are not asking for the sale often. If you only ask people to buy from you on a Monday but not any other day then your sales will dwindle and I mean literally tell them come buy from me after you give them a heap load of value.
  3. If your prices are not in alignment with your audience. Prices are not pulled from the top of your head…no. Prices are derived based on many factors one of which includes how much the market can manage. Do your research and price accordingly but DO NOT UNDERPRICE AND HOPE TO GET SALES!!!!
  4. You are selling to the wrong people. If you are trying to sell bananas to people who love apples then you are wasting precious time and resources. Sell to those who love what you are offering and they will buy from you over and over and over again and then refer you to another banana lover.

5. Online Strategies

What online platforms are you on? Do you know that even though facebook may be the most popular it is not the only platform that you should be connecting with your audience. This is a common mistake. Build a facebook page and they will come……ammmm nope!

In fact, for you to really see your business grow you need to have an online strategy for your business and not just wing it. Your strategy will include

  1. A consistent look and feel. Are you using different colours and font and there is no cohesion to your look? Then you are confusing your audience
  2. Is your message on point? Are you speaking directly to your audience about the things that they want to hear about or are you jumping from a motivation piece to pictures of a cat, to a happy birthday announcement? What is the ultimate message that you want to share? Share that consistently
  3. Are you consistent or only showing up on Thursday night at 8pm. No you do not need to show up every hour on the hour to be a force online but you need to show up consistently enough that your audience gets to see and learn from you and ultimately buy from you.
  4. Finally, it is not about you, it is about them! Hard pill to swallow yes but it means be social and engage with your audience and talk to them often. Show them how much you care and love them and they will reward you by buying from you.

6. Team work/ Building a team

 I am a big believer in team work. I know I would not have come this far if I did not have a team. Not even a huge team but a team of dedicated people who keep me accountable, who share tools and resources and help keep me on the right track. Everybody deserves to have a team because we do not need to build our business alone.

Those days are over! Because there is enough in the Universe for all of us to be millionaires and to be powerful if we would just put down our barriers and believe in others as well. Not everybody is trying to steal your dream…in fact nobody can do that. But there is abundance in this universe and as a team we can definitely all succeed.

4 ways to increase your revenue

Everybody wants to make money in their business right? Either that or they are running a charity. But making the money always seems to be the hard part for many entrepreneurs because we do not talk about money or understand how money works (but that is for another blog post!). There are some tried and tested ways to make more money in your business. I want to share with you just 4 ways:

1. Look at what you are offering and determine if the prices need to be raised. (Yes you will lose a few clients but you will gain better clients in the long run!) Do that immediately. Raising your prices means that you will attract higher paying clients who value what you are selling them. Do not get caught into the thinking that charging less will give you more clients. In fact the opposite is true. Raising your prices also means you may be able to work with less people and still earn the money you want.

2. What product or service are you presently offering that sells the most? Sell more of it by talking about it more, give your clients more info about it and get more people to buy it. It is your number 1 seller for a reason. This means you have to be very intune with your clientele and your inventory. The product that sells the most and flies off the shelf fastest is the one you should be producing the most of. If you make 100 soaps and they all sell out in 1 week and you have a line of people trying to buy more, then you need to make more soaps and sell more of it every week (raise your prices!)

3. Are you offering enough things? Meaning, are you selling more than 1 thing at a time? It is a myth that you should be selling 1 thing at a time. Sell as much as 2 or 3 things at a time so you have multiple streams coming in and you are not depending on just 1 sales. When you are running ads, sending out emails or doing videos, it is okay to sell more than 1 thing because your clients are at different stages of the buying process with you. Some need a low end product, some a mid range and some a high end. You should be selling all of them. They key is to know where to sell each one of these things. Once can be sold in your fb group, another via your email list and still another in collaboration with another entrepreneur. Do not depend on the sale of 1 thing to give you the revenue you desire.

4. Offer weekly or monthly package deals. So instead of a month by month sale, offer a 3 month package which they can pay over a period of time. That way you can guarantee money is coming in even 90 days from now. This works well especially for service providers like consultants. For hair dressers and nail techs for example ensure that your clients book their next appointments in advance so you are guaranteeing that you are always booked. If you sell a product, you know how long it lasts on average, so ensure that your strategy includes a follow up system so they buy another item from you before their last bottle is completed. And combine services or products. This way you get a larger revenue jump than if you were trying to sell each item individually.

5 things your clients are saying about you

You know how no matter how we try we are always concerned about what ‘people’ think about us? Well the only person who should be focused on is what your client thinks about you and what they are saying. As entrepreneurs it is very easy to just focus on ourselves and whine and complain about why people are not buying from us, but let me share with you 5 things your clients (potential clients) are saying about you. Hopefully this will help you get clearer about what you should be doing in business

  1. I am not sure of exactly how you can help me. Why? Because your message is not clear and how you can help is not clear. Your ads or posts are vague and leaves clients more confused than when they first encountered you
  2. I do not know anyone who has ever tried your services or products. Why? Because you have not asked for reviews or testimonials so that your ideal clients have proof from other people that you do what you say you do. Yes the opinions of others is super important to them.
  3. I do not know who that is. Why? Because you hide behind a logo or some meme and people do not trust who they do not know. As a new entrepreneur you should let people, know, like and trust you and that means putting your face out there sometimes. Being visible and sharing valuable information consistently.
  4. They never respond to messages or questions. Why? Because for some reason you think every question they ask is annoying and instead of being patient and responding to them and giving excellent customer service you ignore them and thus they ignore you can buy from the person who answers them in a timely manner.
  5. I already know someone who sells that. Why? Because we all know someone who sells something but you need to let them see and understand the value that you bring to them when they buy from you. You need to let them know what makes you UNIQUE. Do not assume they know and do not assume it is the price.

 

So I chose to only list 5 but there are quite a few other things your clients are saying about you which you should be aware of. These are things that you can easily adjust in your messaging and your strategy so that you do no lose sales or even lose clients unnecessarily. Stop making excuses!

As a coach I have heard it all, trust me. From:

  • I have no time
  • The kids were awake
  • I got sick
  • My laptop stopped working
  • I have no support
  • I just don’t know what to do
  • I feel overwhelmed
  • The dog ate my assignment

I have heard them all and while I know sometimes we have legitimate reasons why things cannot get done, many times, if we are totally honest with ourselves we know that we are making excuses.

Why do we make excuses?

Most times it is out of fear! We do not know what will happen if we actually do the work. We are afraid that if we put in the work and we do not get the outcome we want then we will be disappointed. Fear cripples you into not just making excuses but not doing anything at all. But my question is- What is the worst that could happen if you do nothing? You end in the exact same spot and nothing gets done and your business dream just withers away

Other times it is out of laziness! Yes laziness. People are lazy. Sometimes you are extremely lazy. Some days you feel like doing nothing at all, but if you feel like that every day then Houston we have a problem! Running a business is not for the faint of heart and neither is it for someone who chooses to be lazy because yes it is a choice.

What do excuses do to our business?

Excuses keep you back. They hold you back from success and it kills your motivation, drive and momentum. An excuse is any barrier you put up physically, mentally or emotionally that keeps you from completing what you set out to do.

What is the truth?

The truth is that you have more control than you think or more than you allow yourself to have. As humans, it is easy for us to complain and make excuses because that is where we are most comfortable. How do you combat your excuses?

  1. You set a plan or a goal and you stick to it, even when you are feeling lazy, down, demotivated or whatever you want to call it this week. The point is that you give yourself no excuses.
  2.  You get an accountability partner who will take no excuses what so ever
  3. You hire a coach ( Yes I am available!) who will help you develop the tools to keep you focused
  4. You develop daily practices like affirmations and journalling which get you in the best mindset everyday
  5. You commit to get things done no matter what!

Parents know the drill all too well with their kids. They have a million excuses why they should not go to bed on time; or do homework; or clean their rooms and as a strong parent you let them know that the rules are the rules and they have to do it no matter what. No excuses!!! So why don’t the same rules apply to you and your business?

Excuses are the things that hold us back. It is our comfort zone and in coach I always tell my clients get uncomfortable until you are comfortable…and then get uncomfortable again! Business is about growth and learning and going beyond where you thought possible for your business. That definitely will not happen if you keep coming up with excuses for why you are not

  • posting on your page
  • doing videos
  • making phone calls
  • attending networking events
  • collaborating
  • selling everyday
  • investing in new
  • writing your blog

Thinking beyond our shores

So you launch your business idea and it is picking up momentum but after a few months you realise that you have plateaued and of course you automatically go into panic mode. You wonder if you are doing enough and if you can sustain your business. The usual feelings of anxiety and worry start to take over and then you pause, because you realise that maybe just maybe your vision is too small. Do not fear this happens to alot of entrepreneurs!

We are taught to believe that we need to think small. That when we launch we have to launch small and capture a small audience first. That we have to nurture them for a long time before we branch off into bigger territory but the truth is that once you have done the research and your business is viable there is no reason for you to stay hidden in the shores of your island or country where you reside.

There are millions of people around the world who are waiting to buy from you.

In fact I know some local entrepreneurs who get their greatest sales from overseas clients! This could be you to if only you would broaden your perspective and outlook on who really needs your services. You need a global mindset!

And it really does not matter what industry you are in, service or retail, there more than likely a market regionally and internationally for what you are providing. How would you know? Start by doing some research. Create a survey and send out to all your friends and family living away. Share the survey in groups or on your social media profile. Ask questions about exactly what they may be looking for and tailor your business to suit. Now it may mean that to handle the international shipping and handling of your business may take some work but it definitely is not impossible. Don’t you buy goods made from China and Europe everyday? Don’t you listen to webinars and buy short courses from persons from around the world? So why should you be any different?

For many Caribbean entrepreneurs, this is a big struggle. I understand it, because we have grown up in an era where foreign translates to ‘better’. But as more and more businesses are popping up and more persons are collaborating and seeing the potential for bigger and better things, it is your duty to share your skills, your talents and your vision with the rest of the world. It is more than just about the money. But it is about filling a need and a gap like no one else could. Putting your unique spin on your idea and taking charge of your vision to make it come to life.

It starts with shifting your mindset about the possibilities for your business. Once you believe that you can do it then jump in and do it. Get the research done, tweak your ideal client avatar and then start to engage with and build relationships with persons outside of your shores. Think regionally and internationally. In some cases, this is where your biggest sales may actually come in. And put a spin on it by targeting foreigners who visit our shores who you know need and want your service when they do visit. There are multiple ways for you to make your business successful internationally if only you would allow yourself the chance to actually do it.
