10 ways to prepare for 2018

So we are fast approaching 2018 and the panic has set in for many. How do I finish off the year? Did I complete everything I said I would?  How much money can I make between now and Christmas? What exactly am I going to do differently in 2018?

Rest assured, this is a common feeling and dilemma that many entrepreneurs face and feel at the end of the year. The new year feels overwhelming but have no fear, I am here to share with you 10 ways you can prepare for 2018.

1. Do a brain flush

This simply means writing out all the ideas you have in your head in no particular order. Get it all out and on paper until you feel you have everything out so you have a fresh clean slate to start on

2. Write out a new goal

A goal not written is merely a wish list. To go into the new year, get very clear about what you want to happen in your life and your business. Write out a very specific goal which will highlight exactly what work you want to do, who you want to serve, how you want to serve them, how much money you want to make and by when you want to make the money.

3. Reach out to your clients and ask for a testimonial and a referral

Your past clients are your best clients…because they already know how awesome you are and will gladly spread the word once they have been blown away. So before the year is ended, ask them for a testimonial and a referral of your services so you can increase your client list and get more eyes on your business

4. Review your analytics

If you use social media to actively promote your business, then this is a great time to review your analytics. Have a look back over the year and take note of the posts and information you shared that performed really well. The post which got the most views or engagement. The blogs that had the most responses. The videos that had the most engagement. Spend time going through your analytics so you get a better sense of what resonates with your audience so you can do more of those things as you work to increase your visibility and brand presence.

5. Choose 10 books you have to read to help grow your business

As an entrepreneur we know that we should be continuously learning and growing. Books should be our bets friend whether in hard copy or as an audio book. Reading is a great way to keep on top of your game and stay motivated as you climb the ladder to success. There are so many great motivational and personal development books that continue to help us be the best that we can be. I recommend you start with

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill

The Power of Positive Thinking by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale

6. Make a list of collaborators

Collaboration is a great way to grow your business fast! The key is to choose persons who already have a great client base and add value to their existing clients as well as yours. Identifying who you want to collaborate with and why you think the collaboration is beneficial to both of you is bound to elevate your business in 2018.

7. Create a content list of all the topics you can share with your audience

By now you should have a clear idea of the information that your ideal clients need and want. Using bullet points, start to make a list of topic ideas that you would like to share during the year. The list will not be exhaustive but it should serve as a jumping off point for you to start the year off on the right foot. Your list can then be used to write value post, send emails to your audience, do live or pre recorded videos and so many other things.  Planning in advance is key to the your successful growth

8. Identify 5 clients you have to land

No more shooting around in the dark. You know the clients you want to work with. You already know you your sweetheart client is and you understand exactly how you can make an impact in their lives. Start the year by writing out their names and how you plan to help them solve a challenge they presently have.

9. Choose a mentor

Having a mentor is one of the best things you can do for your business. No matter what stage of business you are in, it is great to have someone who has already been where you presently are to guide and support you along the way. There are many entrepreneurs who are willing to mentor new and budding entrepreneurs. Make a note of some of the people you really admire and seek them out as mentors. This will do wonders for your business, your moral and your motivation in 2018.

10. Identify 2 new skills you need to learn

Keep learning! It’s that simple. As we grow, we continue to learn. None of us have all the skills necessary to run a business. So we learn as we grow. Identify 2 new skills that you know you want to learn to improve your business and schedule a period of time during the year when you will start the process of engulfing yourself into learning that skill.

This list is by no means exhaustive, but it is a great starting  point for you to overcome the overwhelm of finishing this year and taking a deep dive into 2018. If you still feel stuck, then I am just a click away.

5 things

5 things your clients are saying about you

You know how no matter how we try we are always concerned about what ‘people’ think about us? Well the only person who should be focused on is what your client thinks about you and what they are saying. As entrepreneurs it is very easy to just focus on ourselves and whine and complain about why people are not buying from us, but let me share with you 5 things your clients (potential clients) are saying about you. Hopefully this will help you get clearer about what you should be doing in business

  1. I am not sure of exactly how you can help me. Why? Because your message is not clear and how you can help is not clear. Your ads or posts are vague and leaves clients more confused than when they first encountered you
  2. I do not know anyone who has ever tried your services or products. Why? Because you have not asked for reviews or testimonials so that your ideal clients have proof from other people that you do what you say you do. Yes the opinions of others is super important to them.
  3. I do not know who that is. Why? Because you hide behind a logo or some meme and people do not trust who they do not know. As a new entrepreneur you should let people, know, like and trust you and that means putting your face out there sometimes. Being visible and sharing valuable information consistently.
  4. They never respond to messages or questions. Why? Because for some reason you think every question they ask is annoying and instead of being patient and responding to them and giving excellent customer service you ignore them and thus they ignore you can buy from the person who answers them in a timely manner.
  5. I already know someone who sells that. Why? Because we all know someone who sells something but you need to let them see and understand the value that you bring to them when they buy from you. You need to let them know what makes you UNIQUE. Do not assume they know and do not assume it is the price.

So I chose to only list 5 but there are quite a few other things your clients are saying about you which you should be aware of. These are things that you can easily adjust in your messaging and your strategy so that you do no lose sales or even lose clients unnecessarily. Do you think any of your clients say these things about you and how can you fix it today so that the conversation about your business changes?

Stop making excuses!

As a coach I have heard it all, trust me. From:

  • I have no time
  • The kids were awake
  • I got sick
  • My laptop stopped working
  • I have no support
  • I just don’t know what to do
  • I feel overwhelmed
  • The dog ate my assignment

I have heard them all and while I know sometimes we have legitimate reasons why things cannot get done, many times, if we are totally honest with ourselves we know that we are making excuses.

Why do we make excuses?

Most times it is out of fear! We do not know what will happen if we actually do the work. We are afraid that if we put in the work and we do not get the outcome we want then we will be disappointed. Fear cripples you into not just making excuses but not doing anything at all. But my question is- What is the worst that could happen if you do nothing? You end in the exact same spot and nothing gets done and your business dream just withers away

Other times it is out of laziness! Yes laziness. People are lazy. Sometimes you are extremely lazy. Some days you feel like doing nothing at all, but if you feel like that every day then Houston we have a problem! Running a business is not for the faint of heart and neither is it for someone who chooses to be lazy because yes it is a choice.

What do excuses do to our business?

Excuses keep you back. They hold you back from success and it kills your motivation, drive and momentum. An excuse is any barrier you put up physically, mentally or emotionally that keeps you from completing what you set out to do.

What is the truth?

The truth is that you have more control than you think or more than you allow yourself to have. As humans, it is easy for us to complain and make excuses because that is where we are most comfortable. How do you combat your excuses?

  1. You set a plan or a goal and you stick to it, even when you are feeling lazy, down, demotivated or whatever you want to call it this week. The point is that you give yourself no excuses.
  2.  You get an accountability partner who will take no excuses what so ever
  3. You hire a coach ( Yes I am available!) who will help you develop the tools to keep you focused
  4. You develop daily practices like affirmations and journalling which get you in the best mindset everyday
  5. You commit to get things done no matter what!

Parents know the drill all too well with their kids. They have a million excuses why they should not go to bed on time; or do homework; or clean their rooms and as a strong parent you let them know that the rules are the rules and they have to do it no matter what. No excuses!!! So why don’t the same rules apply to you and your business?

Excuses are the things that hold us back. It is our comfort zone and in coach I always tell my clients get uncomfortable until you are comfortable…and then get uncomfortable again! Business is about growth and learning and going beyond where you thought possible for your business. That definitely will not happen if you keep coming up with excuses for why you are not

  • posting on your page
  • doing videos
  • making phone calls
  • attending networking events
  • collaborating
  • selling everyday
  • investing in new
  • writing your blog

So, tell me what excuse you are NOT going to make today and how we can work together to keep your momentum as you grow your business with NO excuses.

How hiring a coach changed my life

I have had many mentors in my life and people who have helped me achieve what I dreamed of in my personal and business life. That added support, shoulder to cry on, ear to vent to and general cheerleader made a big difference in my life.

When I shifted my own Marketing business into becoming a full time coach, the first thing I did was hire a coach for a number of reasons.

  1. I wanted to understand the process and the best way was to immerse myself into a coaching programme myself
  2. I wanted guidance and support
  3. I wanted somebody who would not take no for an answer

Just this week, members of my facebook group- Dynamic Business Strategist– asked me if I had my own coach and I confirmed that I did, because I believe that being the best coach means that I also need to be coached. No one can build a business on their own and because sometimes we are so close to and tied into our business we miss some major loop holes which my coach can identify for me.

My coach is not just my personal cheerleader but she understands my goals and the work that I need to put in to get their because she has already walked this path. She has experience on her side and because of that I am able to avoid many mistakes if I was going this journey alone. My coach does not cuddle my feelings…which many people feel a coach should do…instead she calls me out on my laziness and procrastination and pushes me beyond my own comfort zone.

My coach allows me to dig within myself and develop solutions to problems I thought were insurmountable because she believe and she understands that I know exactly what I want and she won’t allow me to allow my fears to keep me back from my own success. She is in invested in my success because mine are hers. She is not here to cuddle me when I get in my feelings but remind me of the big picture and WHY I need to get up, show up and be accountable for my actions.

My coach has changed my life for the better because without her I would not have made as much progress as I have so far in the short nine months that I have been doing this full time. She stretches my imagination and asks me the tough questions so I can see that there is so much more of myself to be uncovered and revealed to the world. Without a coach, I would still be struggling, trying to figure out exactly where I want to be and who I want to be. Do not get me wrong, I eventually would have figured it all out but trust me when I say, it would have taken me so much longer to get to where I am now, where I am making the money I want and living the kind of life that I want.

Having a coach is a necessity for any entrepreneur. It is a financial sacrifice that pays off once you are committed to put in the work and open yourself to the possibilities of bigger and better for yourself. It is one of the best investments you can make into your business. Hiring a coach was the first thing I did when I started this particular journey and now I am on my 3rd coach because I recognise and understand that every time I am physically, mentally and emotionally ready to take my business to the next level, I want the support of another fabulous entrepreneur who has already taken these steps, walked along this path and who understands my own hesitation and is not afraid to call me out on any b.s that is holding me back.

My coach allows me to be me while exploring an even better me as I evolve. Hiring a coach changed my life and my business. I am not saying this to even convince you to hire me as a coach (which by the way is a fabulous idea!!) but because I want you all reading this to understand that hiring a coach is not a luxury. It should not be a second thought. It should be instinctive as hiring a graphic artist or web designer. Hiring a coach will set you and your business apart and will help you elevate at a much faster pace than if you were doing it alone.

And if you still have questions about how a coach can change your life and your business, feel free to hop on a FREE 30 minute discovery call and let’s discuss how coaching really works.

Stop Following Everybody

Stop following everybody. Let’s get straight to the point!

You start a business and then you get sucked into the vortex of facebook, instagram, twitter, Linkedin and the list goes on and you start to watch what everybody is doing, whether they are your competitor or not, you cannot help but watch they are doing and read all their success stories. And then you start to follow them or at least attempt to replicate what they are doing. And then you hear crickets in your business because the truth is they do not give you the whole truth about their processes. So you follow someone else and repeat the same procedure and you may see a little growth.

And then you decide to start a blog or an etsy store or a facebook group and you still are not seeing results. You decide to start to do videos and do online courses and workshops and start a second business even though the first one has not really taken off yet because well… everyone is doing it right.

And then you lie in bed and cry yourself to sleep because you just cannot understand how everybody is getting success and sales and being visible and taking fabulous trips and you are stuck with no clients, no sales, no life, no nothing… the simple solution is STOP FOLLOWING EVERYBODY!!

The reality is while you see your competitor really crushing it online and offline, you really do not know the full story. You do not know if they have sleepless nights. You do not know if they are in debt. You do not know if they have no support. You do not know much about them so you have no reason to compare yourself to them. That is the first point.

The second point is WHY do you want to be exactly like them anyways? To be in business you need to be UNIQUE. You need to develop a brand that will be memorable and authentic to your clients.

The third point is that you need to decide on a course of action and complete it until the end. You know what I am talking about. You have signed up for 10 online courses, joined 20 facebook groups, listening to at least 5 different gurus telling you to a different thing everyday and you feel overwhelmed, exhausted and confused.

Seriously. Choose one and complete it till the end. Test it with your audience and see if it resonates with them and then move onto the next thing.

Your story is unique and your journey is completely yours. You do not have to live by anyones rules or fill anyones shoes in order to be a success in business. It is totally up to you what you want to do and what makes you comfortable. I am not saying not to push yourself out of your comfort zone but what I am saying is that not because everybody is doing it means it is the right thing for your business. What do your clients need and want? How do they buy from you? How often do they buy from you?

The point is that the more of you that you show. The more of you that you share. The more you help your clients and focus on giving value and serving them, the more your business will grow and things will fall into place. Follow yourself for a change. Believe in YOU.

Investing in yourself is essential

When anybody hears the phrase- Invest in yourself- they automatically cringe because immediately they think it is about a huge money investment. But that is furthest from the truth.

As an entrepreneur whether you are now starting out or have been in business quite a number of years, investing in your greatest capital which is yourself is an ongoing process.

It never ends. But the big misconception is that this investment has to cost us a ton of money.

Investments come in various forms. From paying for a coach to doing free online courses. The main factor to consider is to determine where are you lacking and then find the resources that can fill that gap. With little or no money, you can still invest in yourself and your business while it grows and as it grows more, then you can begin to invest financially.

One of the biggest and best investments is in your education. With free online courses and self study courses all over the internet, there is absolutely no reason for you not to be updated with the latest trends in your industry. Online sites like Udemy have a mix of paid and free courses available for students and entrepreneurs. Your community centres and Government agencies also offer many free courses in various subjects.

Invest in your time. Sounds weird right? But basically, it means taking control of how you spend your time and who you spend it with. Do you spend more time doing and reading things that are not adding to the development of your business or are you surrounding yourself with like minded individuals who are on similar paths as you are. Your time is precious. Do not squander it and then complain that the things you want to get done are not being accomplished.

Invest in your health because your health is your wealth. Having a thriving business and being constantly drained, sick and tired is not how you grow a sustainable business. Ensuring that you are well rested, nourished and strong is essential to building a great business.

Invest in your mind, by constantly reading and meditating and filling yourself with positive conversations, thoughts, words and actions. Your mind is a terrible thing to waste and as an entrepreneur it is your most powerful tool. Ensure that what you are feeding it is the right energy and the right messages to keep you focused on your goal.

Investing in your circle is part of investing in yourself. Because if you hire the best accountant, social media manager and coach, then you will thrive. An investment in others who can do some tasks better than yourself is a great investment in yourself and your business.

And finally, invest in your family. They are the reason you are doing this. For most of us, they are the reason we got into business in the first place. To create a legacy and a fortune so that they along with yourself can live a life that you love.

Be purposeful in your investment because the sooner you decided to take action, the sooner you will see the results of your investment.

And if you are still unsure of where to start, then book a FREE 30 minute discovery call with me today and let’s get you to invest in the best things for your business right now

Staying motivated is not as hard as you think

I know you must have read that headline and shake your head in disbelief. How dare I say that when so many entrepreneurs are struggling everyday to remain focused when they are faced with obstacle after obstacle getting in the way of their success right? But hear me out….. I am not saying that there won’t be days when you do not feel motivated. In fact there will be many. But what I am saying is that getting back on track and keeping that momentum is not as hard as we think if we do some of the following things:

1. Remember WHY we started in business in the first place

Sometimes we get so caught up in the day to day running of the business that we forget why we started a business in the first place. Was it to have more freedom? Spend more time with your kids? Be your own boss? Create a legacy? Share something bigger and better with the world? We have to refocus on WHY we started our own business in the first place and let that be the impetus for us to keep on pushing even on the days when it feels nearly impossible. Your WHY should be so huge that it requires you to dig deep within yourself and get uncomfortable until you are comfortable.

2. Get into a routine

Every successful business person has a routine. Whether it is a daily routine or a monthly routine. The point is that having a routine will keep you on track and motivated because it will also tie into your WHY. Some daily routines include morning affirmations, journalling, daily exercise, meditation etc. Get your mind and body into a daily routine so that it automatically prompts you do to do what needs to be done everyday.

3. Stay Committed and Focused

As an entrepreneur, you need to almost have a blind focus on what you are trying to achieve. An obsession with your own success (not with money) that drives you to jump out of bed each day even on the hardest days and push beyond your own limits. Your commitment and focus is what will keep you motivated each and every day as you build the empire that you are dreaming about.

4. Set A goal

How many times have you heard that you have to have a goal? This is tied of course into WHY you started your business but still separate and apart. Having daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly goals will help manage your overwhelm, which is one of the reasons so many entrepreneurs get demotivated in the first place. They look at their big goal and it seems like it will swallow them. But breaking down your goals into smaller daily actionable steps creates a momentum that gets you moving from one stage to the next everyday in your business.

If you are still struggling to stay motivated, then it is definitely time for you to book a FREE 30 minute discovery call so we can get you on track and keep that momentum going
